More vaccine passport confusion as Hearts WILL enforce rules this weekend despite so called 'grace period'

Hearts have confirmed they will be checking fans' vaccine status this weekend despite a 'grace period' that was understood to mean Premiership clubs don't have to enforce the new rules just yet.

Under controversial plans from the Scottish Government, any attendee of an outdoor seated event with an attendance of 10,000 or more must be double-jabbed from this weekend.

That includes most home games in Gorgie and those at rivals Hibs plus Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen but on Tuesday it was revealed the regulations don't have to be enforced at football stadia until a two-week period has elapsed.

Despite that, Robbie Neilson's side have revealed supporters will be checked for Saturday's league clash at home to Motherwell.

A statement read: " Heart of Midlothian’s cinch Premiership encounter with Motherwell on Saturday will see the introduction of vaccine certificate checks at Tynecastle Park.

"New Scottish Government legislation, which comes into effect from October 1st, requires spot checks of vaccine certificates at all events with more than 10,000 attendees.

"The club yesterday sought clarification from the Scottish Government after a two week ‘grace period’ was announced, however, this is primarily to allow businesses time to test their processes and as such we are still required to implement the new protocols this coming Saturday.

"Therefore, everyone attending matches at Tynecastle – home and away fans – must be fully vaccinated and must bring proof of this vaccination status with them to the game, unless exempt.

"Unfortunately, any person failing to prove their vaccine certification or exemption status will, in compliance with the law, be refused entry."
