The public has an extra fortnight to have their say on the planned Fassifern to Hexham freight rail line.
The NSW government has pushed the Lower Hunter Freight Corridor feedback deadline back to August 31 "due to COVID-19 restrictions in place across NSW".
Four potential routes for the future 30-kilometre line were unveiled last week.
A preferred alignment mainly follows the M1 Motorway but some properties are impacted, mainly at Cameron Park and Black Hill.
Barnsley residents have flagged concerns about how close the line would be to their homes.
Transport for NSW will hold an online information session on Wednesday, July 28.
Anyone can register to attend and submit questions in advance at www.transport.nsw.gov.au/LHFC.
"COVID-19 has placed restrictions on being able to come and meet with residents and community in person but through technology we are trying to ensure that all questions from the community are responded to," Transport for NSW said in a statement.
Cessnock MP Clayton Barr had called for changes to the consultation process, saying it had been "geared" towards "cutting out people's voices".
