More than half of Scots left 'confused' at Nicola Sturgeon's roadmap out of lockdown

More than half of Scots said they were left confused by Nicola Sturgeon’s roadmap out of lockdown, according to a new Daily Record poll.

The First Minister revealed a ‘cautious’ route out of the tight stay at home restrictions in an address to MSPs late last month.

It was announced that the reopening of schools will be phased with the non-essential sectors of economy set to begin in late April.

We surveyed 3,468 people for their thoughts on Sturgeon’s announcement - and 56% of respondents said they were a bit puzzled by it all.

More than one in five people (21%) said they were relieved while 6% said they were excited about the so-called light at the end of the tunnel.

Almost a fifth of Scots (17%) said they were scared or worried about the easing of restrictions.

A total of 57% of people said that the Scottish Government’s staggered approach to reopening school buildings was the right call.

Readers were split on the return to a regional tiered system of lockdown restrictions, which is set to be reintroduced in Scotland on April 26.

The majority of people (55%) disagreed with the First Minister on the tiered approach, with the remaining 45% saying it is the correct decision.

Nicola Sturgeon announced that series of lockdown rules will change over the coming weeks.

Four Scots from two households will be able to meet outdoors for social and recreational purposes from Friday.

Up to 15 adults will be able to take part in non-contact sport and group exercise outdoors at the same time.

Teenagers aged 12-17 will also be able to meet in groups of four from different households.

Communal worship is also pencilled in to restart from March 26 with attendances limited to 50 people.

Speaking at Holyrood today, the First Minister said: “Even though we are firmly heading in the right direction right now and I firmly believe we are, we cannot afford to take our foot off the brake too soon.

“We still need to keep the virus under control if our hopes for a much more normal summer are not to suffer a setback.

“We do of course intend to ease restrictions as soon as we safely can - and we will do it quicker than previously anticipated if that proves to be possible.”
