More than half of June COVID-19 cases in Dallas County have involved persons under 40

DALLAS _ In what was a daily record-high number of novel coronavirus cases in Dallas County, authorities on Saturday reported 561 new patients.

The Dallas County Health and Human Services department also reported seven COVID-19 deaths.

The total coronavirus case count in Dallas County on Saturday was 19,595 and includes 351 deaths.

An increasing proportion of COVID-19 cases in Dallas County are being diagnosed in people between 18 to 39 years old, DCHHS said. Of cases reported after June 1, more than half have involved persons in that age group.

"Increasing outbreaks of cases are continuing to be reported from multiple large social gatherings since the beginning of June," the department wrote on Saturday.

According to DCHHS, the deaths reported Saturday were of:

_ A man in his 40s who lived in Irving and had underlying high-risk health conditions.

_ A man in his 50s who lived in Dallas and did not have underlying high-risk health conditions.

_ A man in his 50s who lived in Dallas and had underlying high-risk health conditions.

_ A man in his 70s who lived in Dallas and did not have underlying high-risk health conditions.

_ A woman in her 70s who lived in Farmers Branch and had underlying high-risk health conditions.

_ A man in his 80s who lived in Irving and had underlying high-risk health conditions.

_ A woman in her 90s who lived in Seagoville and had underlying high-risk health conditions.
