More than a dozen new homes could transform former restaurant site in Wollaton

Multi-million-pound plans to build more than a dozen new homes at a derelict restaurant site in Wollaton will target first-time buyers and young families, it has been revealed.

Developers want to build 18 two and three-bedroom properties in Wollaton Vale where Spices Indian Restaurant once stood.

The site was cleared at Christmas time and plans have since been lodged to regenerate the site.

Ian Jowett, director at IDD Commercial Ltd, the developer, said the "much-needed" new homes could target first-time buyers, young families and investors.

He said the firm hoped to bring the brownfield site "up to scratch", preventing it from going to "rack and ruin".

"As soon as we get planning permission, we will kick start. If we can start in September it will probably be a nine-month job," he said.

"By this time next year it should be finished.

"I am very excited to make it happen and see the finished product."

The development, which is expected to cost more than £3m, is expected to provide a number of car parking spaces.

Mr Jowett said the site was in a decent location near the M1 and on a main bus route, adding: "Why would you not want to live there?"

The vacant restaurant site was bought last September.

It comes after NottinghamshireLive reported that work on a £37.4m housing development at a former factory site in Wollaton was expected to start in the summer.

Business leaders backed the plans to redevelop the derelict sites in the area.

Lorraine Baggs, head of inward investment at Invest in Nottingham, added: "It’s great to hear that a second derelict site in Wollaton is being brought back into use, with 18 new homes being built.

"With so much regeneration taking place in the city centre right now and planned for the next few years, more and more people will be attracted to Nottingham and its surrounding suburbs, and therefore new home are vital.

"With Wollaton being only a 15-minute drive from Nottingham city centre, and several regular bus routes running, it’s attractive to homebuyers who commute into the city for the work.”
