More than £8,000 raised for family of youngster who crashed during Glasgow speedway race

More than £8,000 has been raised for the family of Sam Norris, the youngster who was involved in a motor racing incident in Glasgow earlier this month.

The 15-year-old British Youth 250cc Rider, from Reading, was competing in round three of the British Youth Championships at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium in north Glasgow when he suffered horror head injuries during a high-speed crash.

The young Speedway star is off life support now, and is due to be transferred closer to home soon.

A JustGiving page was set up with the original intention of raising £3,000 to assist his family with travelling and hotel costs, and has now surpassed that by over 280 % thanks to the amount of donations from across the country.

It now sits at £8,427 as of 3pm this afternoon (Tuesday) - to add a donation, head to the JustGiving page for Sam Norris.

A spokesman for Glasgow Tigers, the club hosting the event in which Sam was injured, also held a collection at their meeting against Somerset on Friday, raising more than £3,700 - and the club's owners, the Facenna family, rounded the second total up to £5,000.

With other clubs across the country holding fundraisers for Sam, the money for his parents continues to grow - in the meantime, we wish the young Speedway star a speedy recovery.
