More than £700,000 will be spent on more buses serving new Netherfield housing development

More than £700,000 will be spent on more buses to serve a new housing development in Netherfield. The number of buses running between the city centre and Teal Close, next to the Victoria Retail Park which is near the Rivendell housing development off Colwick Loop Road, will increase.

Earlier in the year, an update revealed at least 220 of the 830 expected houses at that site have already been built. A new Aldi is being built at the site along with a primary school.

A total of £710,000 will be paid to Nottingham City Council by Rivendell developer Persimmon Homes to facilitate the bus service to serve residents living there, which will be given to Nottingham City Transport (NCT), according to a delegated decision.

£680,000 of this money has gone towards what were known as the City Link buses to extend it to the Teal Close development, and £30,000 for travel passes for residents there. The City Link bus is now run under the number 50.

Three instalments of £170,000 have already been paid to the local authority, and it is currently unknown if the final instalment of the £680,000 figure has yet been paid. NCT need to provide written confirmation to the City Council they will use the money for what it is intended, and until then the money remains in a fund before it is released.

The payment from Persimmon Homes is part of a Section 106 agreement. That means developers have to create or invest in infrastructure, such as public transport, GP surgeries and schools as examples, so that it is fit for purpose for people moving in to the new properties, and for people already living in the area.
