More than 70 people in Nottinghamshire have tested positive for the coronavirus in just one day.
Public Health England have released the figures for Wednesday, April 1.
In Nottingham, there has been 20 new Covid 19 cases while across Nottinghamshire the number has risen by 57.
The figure is just for those who tested positive in a hospital setting, which includes Queen's Medical Centre and the City Hospital.
It comes after Nottinghamshire University Hospitals NHS Trust said a further 11 people had lost their battle with the deadly virus in Nottingham.
In Nottingham, there are now 120 cases of Covid 19. A further 275 cases have been confirmed across Nottinghamshire.
Yvonne Doyle, medical director from Public Health England, said that while London was the most advanced in terms of new diagnoses, the Midlands is "now obviously a concern as well."
In Leicestershire there is 187 cases and a further 101 in the city of Leicester.
In Derbyshire, there is 307 cases and in Derby there is 143.

Speaking after it was confirmed on Wednesday that a further 11 people had died in Nottingham, Dr Keith Girling, medical director at Nottingham University Hospitals, said: "Sadly we can confirm that a further eleven patients have died having tested positive for Covid-19.
"Regrettably that means that 29 patients we were caring for have sadly died.
"The patients were aged between 64 and 91, and died between March 22 and March 30.
"The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."
