More than 650 coronavirus cases confirmed across Bristol region in one day

More than 650 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across Bristol region in one day, the latest figures show.

Bristol recorded the highest rise, with further 287 positive tests on Sunday, September 5. The city's Covid rate per 100,000 people now stands at 313. This is slightly lower than the national average which sits at 356.1.

Our city also has 13 Covid patients battling on ventilators -nine in North Bristol Trust and four at University Hospitals Bristol.

A total of 99 people are being cared for at hospitals across Bristol after being diagnosed with Covid.

South Gloucestershire recorded the second-highest figure of 143. North Somerset followed with 128 cases.

A huge spike in cases in early July has now calmed with the number of positive tests fluctuating amongst the hundreds.

The latest R number for the South West currently stands between 1 and 1.2, which means the virus is spreading exponentially again.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • Bristol - 56,218 (+287)

  • North Somerset - 17,952 (+128)

  • South Gloucestershire - 28,331 (+143)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 16,365 (+96)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

  • Bristol - 507 (-)

  • North Somerset - 323 (-)

  • South Gloucestershire - 366 (-)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 233 (+0)

Across the United Kingdom there have been another 37,011 coronavirus cases bringing the total number of infections to 6,978,126 since the start of the pandemic.

There have also been 68 more people to die within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, meaning the death toll now stands at 133,229 across the UK.

Meanwhile, there have been 48,245,337 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine given out while 43,378,193 people have now been double-jabbed.
