More than 65,000 vaccinations delivered in past week across Nottinghamshire

More than 65,000 vaccines have been administered in just one week across Nottinghamshire, new NHS figures show.

Across Nottinghamshire, 860,553 vaccinations have now been administered with 65,821 given out in the last week across sites run by the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group.

In total, 320,789 second doses have now been administered.

This week, the vaccination programme continued to move through age groups with people as young as 34 now able to get a jab.

It comes as Nottingham was shown to be in the top five worst areas for the new Indian Covid 'variant of concern', with public health bosses urging people to take their vaccine when offered.

Targeted testing has been taking place in the county, following outbreaks at two city schools.

Evidence of the variant has been found at both Henry Whipple Primary School in Bestwood and, most recently Ellis Guilford school in Basford.

Public Health director for Nottingham, David Johns, said: “I understand that people may be concerned about the presence of this variant in their community or more widely in Nottingham, but I want to reiterate that there is no cause for alarm.

“It’s also a timely opportunity to encourage everyone to take up the offer of the Covid vaccine when it’s their turn. I can’t emphasis enough the importance of getting vaccinated – this protects you, your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues and is the very best thing you can do right now.

“Variants of concern are being identified around the country and routine targeted testing helps us to monitor their spread. There is no evidence that this variant poses any greater risk to health, but it is important for us and Public Health England to understand more about its movement."

The NHS is urging anyone who qualifies for a jab, but has not yet received one, to book an appointment.

Those who are currently eligible include over 34s, frontline health and social care workers as well as those who are clinically vulnerable and carers. You can book an appointment by calling 119 or visiting the National Booking Website.

If you have symptoms of coronavirus, including a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of smell or taste, then get a test by calling 119 or go online here.
