More than 600 new covid-19 cases confirmed in the Bristol area

Bristol recorded hundreds of new covid cases in the latest 24 hours, according to official figures published by Public Health England today (September 7).

In the latest daily period from which data is available, Bristol recorded 253 cases, bringing the city's total since the pandemic began up to 56,655.

Across the wider Bristol region, there were 639 new cases overall - 143 in South Gloucestershire, 151 in North Somerset and 92 in Bath and North East Somerset.

There have been 119,983 cases across the region since the pandemic began.

There were no deaths within 28 days of a positive test in the region in the last day, leaving the total standing at 1,430.

But in the UK, there were 209 deaths, bringing the country's total up to 133,483.

And another 37,489 new cases were discovered in the UK, bringing its overall total since the start of the pandemic to 7,056,106.

Meanwhile, in Bristol, the latest figures show that 1,029 received a second dose of a coronavirus vaccine, bringing the total up 289,076 people.

And the latest available data on hospitalisations in the city, from August 31, show that 99 patients are in hospital with covid, with 13 on ventilation beds.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

· City of Bristol - 56,655 (+253)

· North Somerset - 18,199 (+151)

· South Gloucestershire - 28,585 (+143)

· Bath and North East Somerset - 16,544 - (+92)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

· City of Bristol - 508 (-)

· North Somerset - 323 (-)

· South Gloucestershire - 366 (-)

· Bath and North East Somerset - 233 (-)
