More than 50 people have been injured after heavy fog and icy roads caused a 69-car pileup on a highway in Virginia.
The pileup started shortly before 8am on Sunday on the Interstate 64 in York County, Virginia.
Virginia State Police said on Twitter that fog and icy conditions were present on the road at the time of the accident.
Dramatic footage and images from the scene shows video footage of the scene showed a sea of cars that had collided with one another or the interstate barricade, some with their doors, trunks and bumpers mangled.
More than 50 people have been taken to hospital following the incident but none are believed to have life-threatening conditions.

The accident happened on the westbound lane but both sides were closed to traffic as emergency services dealt with the accident.
Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya told NPR that 51 people were taken to local hospitals but no one sustained life-threatening injuries.
The owner of a nearby flight centre said he had to wait more than an hour after the crash for the fog to clear so he could fly over the wreckage.

Shaun Stewart said: "It was a bit shocking to see how they were all so tightly packed together.
"I have to imagine it was because of the heavy fog that was wafting all around this morning."
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
