Road Police in Edinburgh were kept busy last night, pulling over more than 50 drivers on the A90 as part of a winter crackdown on drink driving.
Motorists on the busy commuter road were stopped by officers carrying out roadside breath tests during rush hour yesterday evening (19 December).
Police have stepped up checks throughout December for their festive #DriveSmart campaign, which saw one driver in Dalkeith fail a roadside breath test just half an hour after the campaign began.
However, while tickets were issued for minor offences, including driver's car lights, officers found that none of the drivers stopped were over the drink/drug-drive limit.
A statement on the Road Policing Unit's Twitter said: "Edinburgh Road Police and the National Motorcycle Unit carried out a road check on the A90 for our winter drink/drug drive campaign.
"55 vehicles stopped with numerous defect rectification tickets issued for lighting offences. Great to see no driver gave positive readings for alcohol."
Roads policing teams have been busy in and around Edinburgh in recent weeks.
Last month Edinburgh Live reported that police pulled over 61 drivers while carrying out checks on Edinburgh's West Approach Road. A team from the motorcycle unit stopped motorists for a whole host of different reasons – including drink driving.
