More than 5,000 jobs on offer at Manchester Airport jobs fair

Liverpool workers affected by the collapse of travel agent Thomas Cook are among thousands eligible to take part in a jobs fair tomorrow where 5,000 vacancies are available.

A statement on the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority's website estimates that 400 people from the city are among thousands of staff to have lost their jobs when the company went into liquidation last month .

And a jobs fair at Manchester Airport tomorrow is for former company employees as well as workers further down the supply chain affected by its collapse.

Airlines, travel agents and aviation services will be among those present at the fair.

The statement on the combined authority's website says the event is aimed at supporting the thousands of people across the North West who have lost their jobs .

It said: "On Thursday 3 October, public and private sector partners will host an employment fair at Manchester Airport to support former Thomas Cook and supply chain employees from across Greater Manchester and the North West.

"The event will bring together dozens of organisations, including Manchester Airports Group , Jet2, Swissport, Booking.com, Whitbread, RAC and the NHS, who together have in the region of 5,000 vacancies.

"This event will also be open to former Thomas Cook staff from Liverpool not least as the airlines using Liverpool John Lennon Airport have the same team management as Manchester, any current or future vacancies available and their guidance should be provided at the Manchester Airport ."

As well as the vacancies on offer, staff will also be on hand to provide advice on other work, skills and training opportunities.

According to information on Eventbrite workers will need to register beforehand and will also need to bring work ID from either Thomas Cook or their supply chain employer.

Former staff who bring a paper copy of their attendance confirmation are also eligible for free travel to the event on Northern Rail, the Metrolink and Greater Manchester bus services.

The event will take place at the Runway Visitor Park.
