More than 5,000 cases of Capri-Sun recalled over possible cleaning solution contamination

More than 5,000 cases of Capri-Sun in the US have been recalled by its manufacturer after customers complained of the taste.

Kraft Heinz announced on Friday (August 12) that it was recalling about 5,760 cases of Capri-Sun Wild Cherry due to a "potential contamination".

It comes after concerns a diluted cleaning solution was added to a production line in one of the company’s factories by mistake.

The solution was supposed to be added to food processing equipment.

Company bosses became aware of the issue when several people complained about the taste of the drink.

A company spokesperson said: "The voluntary recall comes after diluted cleaning solution, which is used on food processing equipment, was inadvertently introduced into a production line at one of our factories.

"Only the Wild Cherry flavoured Capri-Sun products with the case/package information below are affected."

The company said it was working with retailers and distributors of the drink to remove the possibly contaminated products from shelves.

Shoppers can return cases to the point of sale in order to secure a refund.

The best used by date on the products is June 25, 2023.

Kraft Heinz can be reached at 1-800-280-8252 to “see if a product is part of the recall and to receive reimbursement", a spokesperson added.

They said: "We are committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards."

UK Capri Sun items are not impacted by the recall.

A spokesperson for Capri-Sun GB said: “Kraft-Heinz, the Capri-Sun licensing partner in the US, has been mentioned in the media due to a voluntary recall of approximately 5,760 cases of Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink products.

"This is happening in the United States only and there is no risk of a serious health issue. Capri-Sun’s produced in GB are made by a different manufacturer and are not impacted by the US recall in any way.

"At Capri-Sun, we’re committed, as always to a high standard of quality, as the safety of our consumers is paramount. If anyone does have concerns over their product, we encourage them to contact the relevant customer support line in the GB which can be found on the back of their Capri-Sun products.”
