The Palestinian Central Elections Commission (PCEC) announced the final number of candidates for the Palestinian parliamentary elections scheduled for next month, saying 405, or a third, of the total 1,389 candidates are women.
The Commission published the preliminary roster of the 36 candidate lists, with seven partisan and 29 independent lists, indicating that candidates have three days to object.
It also mentioned that applicants between 28 and 40 years constitute 38.5 percent of the total, while those between the age of 41 and 50 account for 22.2 percent. Candidates above 50 years old represent 39.3 percent of the total number of runners.
The Commission stated that every voter, list or candidate can challenge or file a complaint about any of the lists or candidates' violation of the conditions, provided that their claim is backed by evidence. It also explained that objections are submitted in writing at its offices or through the dedicated website.
All objections are referred to the Commission for deliberation within a maximum of three days, after which it will announce its decision in writing to all concerned parties.
It also said appeals of the committee’s decision can be submitted before the electoral court within three days from the date of notification, noting that the court issues its ruling on the appeals within a maximum of seven days of submission.
