More than 3000 Canberrans without power

Power has been restored to properties in the capital's north and west after more than 3400 residence in the ACT woke to no power on Wednesday morning.

Parts of Nicholls, Coombs, Duffy, Holder, Weston and Wright were all affected by the outage, with many homes not reconnected until after 10am.

More than 900 residents were without power in Nicholls from 7.12am, but Evoenergy managed to restore power to around 600 homes by 8am.

A separate incident down south cut power to more than 2500 residents.

The outage came as Canberra woke to a frosty morning of below minus 5.3 degrees.

Evoenergy reported that damage to the cables of its network system in Nicolls was likely responsible for the outage.

A spokeswoman said the cold start and everyone waking to warm their homes could likely have exacerbated the issue.

At 8am, the spokeswoman said Evoenergy personnel were on scene, working to fix the issue.

Residents heading off to work during an outage are encouraged to register on the Evoenergy website for text message updates of when power is restored to their homes.

More to come.
