More than 250 people have now been discharged from Salford Royal after being treated for coronavirus

More than 250 patients have now been discharged from Salford Royal after being treated for coronavirus.

Hospital bosses today revealed that a total of 265 people who tested positive for the virus have been allowed to return home since the pandemic began.

The latest figure means more than 110 patients have returned home in the last three weeks.

In total, 162 deaths have been recorded at the hospital, according to NHS England.

However, no new fatalities have been recorded there for seven of the last eight days.

It does not mean that no patients have died within the last 24 hours, as there is often a delay in reporting.

But by contrast, in the second week of April the hospital recorded 72 deaths of coronavirus patients in the space of seven days.

Across Greater Manchester, the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in hospital is now at least 1,700.

However, hundreds more have died at care homes and in their own homes across the region since the outbreak started.

The number of people in the borough of Salford who have tested positive for Covid-19 has now reached 896.

Statistics show that there are signs that the Covid-19 infection rate is slowing in the city, with five new cases reported in the last two days.

It means that the infection rate in the borough is now 352 cases for every 100,000 people.
