More than 200 letters delivered to Arboretum residents about prostitution in the area

More than 200 letters have been delivered to residents in the Arboretum about prostitution in the area.

The letters were delivered to residents who live on Forest Road East and West, Addison Street, Balmoral Road, Coalville Street, Waverley Street and North Sherwood Street.

Nottinghashire Police delivered the letters to encourage residents to get in touch if they are experiencing problems in the area.

Police Sergeant Paul Whitehead, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Nottinghamshire Police’s city Prostitution Team visited the Arboretum on Wednesday (August 7, 2019) to engage with the local community.

“More than 200 letters were hand delivered to residents to introduce them to their local Prostitution Team officers and reassure them that any issues they raise will be dealt with.

“Nottinghamshire Police is committed to positively engaging with members of the public and would like to remind people that if they are concerned about prostitution in their area they can call 101 to report them.”

Since 2004, Nottinghamshire Police's Prostitution Task Force has been working to find ways of helping sex workers get the help they need, whilst gradually removing the anti-social behaviour of kerb-crawling off Nottingham's streets.

Together they have worked to build a rapport with the women of Forest Road and the Arboretum as well as weed out the unwanted kerb-crawlers that blight the community.

The team work six out of ten nights, patrolling in an unmarked car and in plain clothes. This decision was taken to break down the barrier between sex workers and the police.

The act of loitering or soliciting for prostitution is a chargeable offence, which starts with a police caution to hopefully deter the offender, but can be followed with prosecution.

Nottinghamshire Live went out with the team earlier this year.
