More than £200,000 is being ploughed into improving the gas network in Johnstone

People living in Johnstone will see a huge investment in their area after Scottish Gas Networks announced that £211,000 will be spent on improvements.

The works will happen in three stages, with approval coming from the Renfrewshire Council, and start on Tuesday, September 20 for 12 weeks.

Phase 1 will take around three weeks from Tuesday, September 20 and involves the closure of a section of the B789 Barrochan Road from its junction with Sandholes Road, to approximately 50 metres south of Magnus Road. During this time a signed diversion route will be in place for motorists via Fulton Drive and Magnus Road.

Phase 2 starts on Monday, October 10, again for around three weeks. SGN will close a section of B789 Barrochan Road around 50 metres south of its junction with Magnus Road, to 20 metres south of the River Inn car park entrance. During this time the diversion route will be from Deafhillock Roundabout to the A761 Bridge of Weir Road and on to the B790 Houston Road.

And Phase 3 - kicking off on Monday, October 31 and taking six weeks - sees the closure of the section of the B789 Barrochan Road between Deafhillock roundabout, to around 50 metres south of Magnus Road. During this time the diversion route will be from Deafhillock roundabout to the A761 Bridge of Weir Road and on to the B790 Houston Road.

A spokesman for SGN, which looks after all the pipes underground and up to your gas meter, said: " Pedestrian access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout our project.

"Disruption to bus services is possible, so please check with your bus operator.

“Our engineers will be working extended hours, including on weekends, to complete our project as quickly and safely as possible.

“We’re committed to upgrading our network to ensure we continue to keep homes and businesses safe and warm long into the future.
