More than 2.5m copies of books spun-off from the Minecraft video game have now been sold across the UK, it has been revealed.

The series of books, which launched in 2013 with four handbooks, are sold in 41 markets and in 32 languages, with a global print run of 8m copies.

More than 22 million people have bought the game in which players mine for useful resources, build structures from blocks, and fight monsters in a virtual sandbox world.

Blockopedia – the game’s first hexagonal book released at the end of 2014 – became the number one title in the non-fiction children’s chart in 2015.

Egmont Publishing, the company which publishes the books, has just announced two new Minecraft titles called The Survivors’ Book Of Secrets and another called Exploded Builds.

The Bafta-award winning game has over 100 million registered users. It is claimed to be the third bestselling game ever.

The company revealed that 2.6million books spun-off from the computer game have now been sold in the UK.

Cally Poplak, managing director of Egmont Publishing UK, said: “Our Minecraft books are a brilliant illustration of outstanding editorial and design that speaks to the fans and of content curation that perfectly complements the online experience of a phenomenal game.”
