More than 2,000 free lunches are up for grabs in Nottingham city centre next week

Free lunches are up for grabs at some of the city's best cafes, restaurants and pubs when the Nottingham Big Lunch returns later this month.

Office workers are being encouraged to leave their desks and have a proper lunch break at places including Alto, Hart's Kitchen, the Kitchen on Pelham Street, Barburrito and the Slug and Lettuce.

There will be 2,000 freebies for employees who work for businesses in the office sector that are members of Nottingham Business Improvement District - the organisers of the initiative taking place between Monday May 20 and Friday May 24.

There will also be the opportunity for members of the general public to win a free lunch as Nottingham BID have partnered up with intu Victoria Centre to give away over 100 free lunches.

To be in with a chance of winning, people need to look out for the Big Lunch posters around the city and social media posts from It’s in Nottingham (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) which will direct people to the It’s in Nottingham website where they will need to register their interest.

“The Nottingham Big Lunch was a great success last year and we had some excellent feedback from people who enjoyed a complimentary lunch and from the businesses who took part in the week-long campaign. We are all guilty of eating a sandwich at our desk and not taking a break.

"For our wellbeing it is important to get out of the office, get some fresh air and use the opportunity to socialise with our colleagues,” said Richard Johal, a director of Nottingham BID.

“We are delighted to be involved in Nottingham’s Big Lunch again this year,” said Adam Worthington, general manager of Hart’s Kitchen, in Standard Hill. “This activity reminds us all to step away from the desk for a change of environment and try something new. A good lunch also breeds good ideas.”

Naomi Wright, manager of the Kitchen on Pelham Street, said: "It’s so easy to fall into a routine of buying a meal deal from a supermarket but with the help from Nottingham BID, hopefully this can be changed."

Eligible companies have been emailed by the BID with all the details about how to apply. Tickets will be given away on a first come, first served basis for an allocated day and restaurant and are only valid for lunchtime meals.

Last year 1,300 free lunches were enjoyed at such venues as Jamie’s Italian, Cock & Hoop, Belgo, The Cheese Shop, The Castle and The Herbert Kilpin.
