More than 2,000 fans to descend on Ayr for the return of Comic Con 2022

Ayr is expected to welcome as many as 2,000 visitors next weekend – as fans descend for a celebration of their favourite comic and movie characters.

Ayr Comic Con gets underway at The Citadel on Saturday, June 4 and you can expect diehard fans to be out in force.

Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Dr Strange, Captain America, Bumblebee and a host of other weird and wonderful characters are expected to add to the colour of the occasion, as fans take to the streets in their heroes’ capes and costumes.

And for those of you who want to find out more about what goes on, traders, cosplayers, comic collectors and gamers will be on hand to tell you all you need to know.

There is also expected to be props from some major Hollywood movies to view.

And workshops will be available for those who want to delve deeper into the world of comic conventions (Comic Con).

BGCP’s (Big Glasgow Comic Page) Ian Bonar, the local organiser, said: “BGCP have organised the popular Ayr Comic Con since 2018 until it was forced to take a break due to Covid-19, but now looks to return bigger than ever.

“We’re expecting over 2,000 people and it’s shaping up to be one of the busiest events in Ayr in a long time!”

Tickets are priced at £3 with Under-10s going free. Tickets can be ordered via the BGCP website.

Ian said: “Comic fans can expect everything on sale from comic books, graphic novels, first appearance comics, action figures, statues, pins, funko pops, trading cards, keyrings, toys, T-shirts, printed art, original art, mugs, lanyards, candles and D&D (dungeons and dragons).”

Those attending will also be able to get up close with seven-foot tall Bumblebee, everyone’s favourite Transformer, get their picture taken with props and play retro arcade machines and retro consoles – all for free.
