More than 150 people have now died from coronavirus at Royal Bolton Hospital

More than 150 people have now died from coronavirus in Bolton.

New figures released today show that four more patients have died at Royal Bolton Hospital after testing positive for the virus, bringing the total to 153.

One person lost their life on Sunday and another three patients died on Saturday, but these figures may go up when further updates are posted later this week.

The first coronavirus death at Royal Bolton was reported on 20th March and the numbers then rose to a peak on April 5th, when 11 people died in one day.

However, it does appear that the hospital has since passed the peak levels, with fewer than five deaths being reported per day over the last 10 days.

Across Greater Manchester hospitals, a further 17 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

It is the lowest 24-hour rise in deaths for the region in just over three weeks.

Today's figure brings the total number of coronavirus deaths in our region to above 1,208.
