More than 130 homes approved for £50m Beeston Square development

Plans for 132 new homes have been given the green light as part of the multi-million pound Beeston Square redevelopment.

The entertainment complex Beeston Square - which broke ground in November last year - includes an eight screen Arc cinema, 132 homes and space for a number of restaurants and bars.

The scheme forms the second phase of a £50million development which involved the refurbishment of the shopping precinct, public transport connecting the town to the NET tram network, more retailers, cafes and a gym.

It was hoped the project, between Styring Street, Middle Street and Station Street, would be open by Christmas this year but the development was already behind schedule as it entered 2020.

Work recommenced at the site with social distancing in place the week beginning April 27 after a pause due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The plans for 132 homes at the site were approved by Broxtowe Borough Council's planning committee on May 20.

It is hoped the complex, when completed, will be a catalyst for further development of Beeston Town Centre and the wider area, with a particular focus on the lucrative night-time economy market.

Councillor Greg Marshall who sits on Broxtowe Borough Council’s project board said: “It’s really great news that the next stage of Beeston Square Phase 2 can move forward now that detailed planning permission is in place for the residential elements.

"The council has taken a bold step in acting as the lead developer to help drive inward investment into the town centre and the 132 new homes will form part of a vibrant new hub, together with the cinema and retail facilities.”
