More than €11,000 raised to cover funeral costs of tragic Cork girl Emmy Eckert who drowned on holiday in Germany

More than €11,000 has been raised to cover the funeral costs of a young Cork girl who drowned in Germany.

Emmy Eckert, five, from Ballincollig died while on holiday with her family in Germany.

It's understood the tot was at a lake with her parents Andreas and Darlene and her three siblings when she got into difficulty.

Paramedics were called to the scene and Emmy was taken to hospital but she failed to regain consciousness.

Emmy's parents work at VMWare in Cork and the little girl was a pupil at Scoil Mhuire in Ballincollig.

A text alert was sent out to all parents of kids in Emmy's class on Thursday when school staff found out about her passing.

And a GoFundMe page has been set up by to help the family cover the costs of the tragic youngster's funeral.

At the time of writing a total of €11,675 has been raised in a week, just short of the €12,000 target.

Emmy's father Andreas said he was hugely grateful for the "wonderful" support his family have received.

He wrote on the page: "We would like to thank you for this wonderful support. It is a blessing to have you all. Love, Andreas and Darlene."
