More than 1000 people test positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire

The Scottish Government today said that 1022 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire.

That is a rise of 27 from yesterday’s figure of 995.

It comes as 903 patients across Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

And 27 people in Lanarkshire were in intensive care at midnight, with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.

The Scottish test numbers for April 19 show a total of 39,612 people have been tested across the country.

Of these:

■ 31,425 tests were confirmed negative

■ 8,187 tests were positive

■ 903 patients who tested positive have died (an increase of 10 on the previous day)

■ 174 patients were in intensive care last night, with 170 of those having tested positive

■ There were  people in Scottish hospitals with either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 (including those in intensive care).

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “I want to start by thanking people across Scotland for staying at home this Easter. It seems as though people have overwhelmingly been doing the right thing over this holiday weekend.

“I don’t underestimate for a single second how hard this will have been for many of you. But your actions have been crucial. By staying at home, you are slowing the spread of Covid-19, you are protecting our NHS and stop it being overwhelmed and undoubtedly helping to save lives. So thank you for sticking with it – we all know how difficult that is.”
