More than 100 workers axed at Fox's Biscuits' Staffordshire factory

Fox's Biscuits has axed 111 workers at its Staffordshire factory.

It is believed that 34 employees have been made compulsorily redundant from Fox's Biscuits in Uttoxeter while the remaining 77 volunteered to leave the business.

Staff have been in consultation about the job losses since March when the company- which employed 780 employees at its Staffordshire plant as of May - announced up to 243 employees could be axed at the 'loss-making' Cheadle Road factory.

The company has now confirmed that, as a result of the consultation process, 111 workers have been lost.

A Fox's Biscuits spokesman said: "The redundancy consultation process is now complete. The original numbers of colleagues at risk was significantly reduced by more than half as part of the consultation process.

"111 colleagues were made redundant, the majority through voluntary redundancy, with only 34 colleagues being made compulsory redundant."

Rick Coyle, regional officer for Unite, told BurtonLive : "It has worked out better than anybody could have hoped.

"Because the management and the unions have worked so closely together, it has been a good outcome.

"There have been around 30 compulsory redundancies, which, when you think there were 243 jobs at risk, is a fantastic result.

"It highlights the benefit of trade unions and has had a profoundly positive impact on the community and the economy in Staffordshire."
