School warns Calpol could 'mask' children's coronavirus symptoms

A school has advised parents that giving children Calpol could "mask" one of the telltale signs of coronavirus.

Warmley Park School and College in South Gloucestershire confirmed two cases of COVID-19 last week, and wrote to parents on Friday with guidance.

The newsletter, signed off by headteacher Lisa Parker, said the school is taking twice-daily temperature checks to identify any children with a potential fever.

She wrote: "A polite reminder that we are asking parents and carers to contact us before sending their child to school if they have had Calpol.

"This is following the advice from Public Health England that Calpol can mask a fever which is a symptom of COVID.

"We are taking the temperatures of pupils twice a day, each day and this has been approved by Public Health."
