More than 100 members of Congress are demanding Donald Trump to repeal the Hyde Amendment

One-hundred-and-six members of Congress signed a letter to President-elect Donald Trump on Monday urging him to repeal the Hyde Amendment and eliminate anti-abortion provisions proposed in his 2018 budget.

“These bans restrict the health coverage of millions of women of reproductive age across the country,” the Congress members wrote. “For too long, low-income women and women of color have shouldered the burden of our country’s restrictive reproductive health laws. We ask that you send a strong signal that this will no longer be the legacy of the United States.”

Back in September, Trump promised to pass the Hyde Amendment, prohibiting women from using taxpayer money to fund abortions. He also promised to defund Planned Parenthood—as long as they provide abortions—and ban abortion after 20 weeks with the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
