More than 100 folk head to Threave Garden and Estate to take a trip back in time

More than 100 visitors to Threave Garden and Estate were able to enjoy a trip back in time recently.

Threave House was set up as it would have been when the Gordon family lived there in the 1930s, complete with the smells of tobacco, wood and mulled wine.

The volunteer guides also dressed up for the occasion with the house specially decorated for the era.

With admission fees reduced to £1, 156 people took the chance to have a look around the house which is normally only open by appointment at this time of year.

Visitor services manager Michelle Robertson said: “Our volunteer guides and flower ladies really made the weekend the success it was.

"It was a chance for us to celebrate volunteering at Threave. We rely a lot on volunteers who give up their time for free, it is not just staff.”

There’s lots going on at the National Trust for Scotland property in the run up to Christmas including Nutcracker and Sugar Plum Fairy weekends on December 7/8 and 14/15.
