More than new 1,500 new jobs have been announced in the North East in the last month as the region’s economy continues to bounce back from the pandemic.
Call centres and outsourcing led the way in job creation, with Newcastle firm Echo-U announcing plans to create 400 new jobs and Sunderland’s EC Outsourcing look to recruit 350 when it expands into a new base on the back of a number of new contracts.
Elsewhere the technology sector has seen 300 new jobs created by Gateshead’s Bloom Procurement, while global digital consultancy Monstarlab is creating 100 new tech jobs after picking Newcastle for its second UK base and European alarm firm Verisure has announced the latest 100 jobs for its operations in North Tyneside.

Jobs are being created by energy consultancy Tritility (100), law firm Business Energy Claims (50), car dealership Vertu (50), toilet roll manufacturer Essity (50), Atom bank (40), mining fim SE-TEK and technology business 3DEO (20).
And it was announced last week that a major investment by Saudi Arabian group Sabic into its chemicals plant on Teesside that would either create or safeguard around 1,000 jobs.
Figures released two weeks ago showed that unemployment was continuing to fall in the North East over the summer, as the job market recovered from the worst impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
The figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show that the unemployment rate in the region for the three months to the end of August was at 5.2%, down slightly from last month’s figure but still above the national average of 4.5%.
The next release of official jobs figures will come in the middle of this month.
