More than £1.3m spent repairing potholes in Salford in one year, report reveals

More than £1.3m was spent on repairing potholes in Salford in one year, according to a report.

It shows 9,329 potholes were reported in the city between 2018 and 2020. 

On average, it took around 28 days for each of these to be repaired after it was first reported, according to a study by GoCompare. 

The car insurance comparison site has revealed the information by using Freedom of Information requests. 

They requested the data from 67 councils in total.

Salford ranks in the top 15 for highest spending on pothole repairs - coming in at £1,324,191.

Of the 29 councils who responded to the FOI, among the biggest spenders were Cornwall (£9.56m) and Wolverhampton (£7.47m).

However, Kent spent the most pounds per pothole with £10.5m on resurfacing roads, £400,000 more than they had done the year before.

The UK’s councils have spent a combined total of £99 million on fixing potholes in 2020. 

A staggering 39,810 potholes are reported each year in the UK, a number that is constantly rising. 

Liverpool took the longest with an average of 191 days during the same time period to repair potholes once they had been reported.
