More than 1,100 people test positive for coronavirus and further 12 die in UK

Twelve more people have died in the UK after testing positive for  coronavirus  within the last 28 days.

Another 1,108 people have also tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

A total of 41,498 people have now died, the Department of Health has announced.

As of Saturday, August 29, a total of 332,752 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK - up from 331,644 the day before.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

NHS England said on Saturday that a further six people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,547.

The patients were aged between 52 and 91 and only one 85-year-old patient did not have a known underlying condition.

The dates of the deaths ranges from June 23 to August 28, with the majority on or after August 27.

Another five deaths have been reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

No new coronavirus deaths have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours, the Scottish Government has said.

A total of 2,494 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus.

Statistics published on the Scottish Government website show 20,195 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up by 88 from 20,107 the day before.
