Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of 1,005 Palestinians since a ceasefire was agreed upon between Israel and the militant group Hamas last October, the Gaza Health Ministry reported Wednesday.
The besieged enclave continues to experience near-daily strikes, alongside shelling and gunfire along the boundary that divides the territory.
The most recent fatalities followed a series of Israeli drone strikes over the past few days targeting towns and refugee camps in central Gaza and Gaza City.
Separately on Wednesday, an Israeli strike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killed two Palestinians and wounded six others, according to health officials at Nasser Hospital.
The Israeli military confirmed the strike, stating its target was a "terrorist" but offered no further details.
However, families at the hospital claimed the strike hit a group of individuals near the beach in the sprawling Mawasi tent camp, home to hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians.
Israel maintains it is continuing operations against Hamas and allied militants in Gaza and has expanded the amount of territory it controls within the strip.
In a distinct statement Wednesday, the Israeli military announced it had killed two militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in strikes conducted over the weekend.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported on Sunday that the overall death toll from the Israel-Hamas war, which began in October 2023, had surpassed 73,000 in Gaza.
The ministry, staffed by medical professionals, maintains detailed records generally considered reliable by the international community, though it does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
