The number of people infected with the new coronavirus who are recuperating at home has risen to at least 1,091 in seven prefectures as of Thursday, according to a nationwide survey by the Yomiuri Shimbun. Although there are people staying home in Tokyo trying to recover from the virus, the Tokyo metropolitan government says it does not know how many, and it is believed that many more people are trying to treat themselves at home.

Patients infected with the new coronavirus are recuperating at home in the eight prefectures of Miyagi, Ibaraki, Saitama, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Saitama Prefecture had the highest number of people at 357, followed by 317 people in Osaka Prefecture. There were 255 in Kanagawa Prefecture and 112 in Fukuoka Prefecture. Among these, there are some cases that the prefectures are coordinating with medical institutions to have these patients admitted.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus increased rapidly, which led to a shortage of hospital beds.

In response to two men dying in Saitama Prefecture from the virus, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry has announced a new policy of using hotels and other accommodations as a place to treat patients with mild symptoms of the coronavirus, rather than have those people try and recover by themselves at home.

Kanagawa Prefecture has set aside 2,400 rooms at these facilities and is encouraging people who have mild symptoms to use them. However, some people are reluctant to go to these facilities, saying it is easier and more convenient to stay at home.
