More snow forecast for the North East as Met Office issues yellow weather warning

Snow is set to hit the North East again after the Met Office issued another yellow weather warning.

Western parts of County Durham and Northumberland have been warned that the cold weather could cause significant disruption on the roads and public transport on Thursday morning.

The snow and ice has already had an impact this week as temperatures plummeted to below freezing in parts of the region on Tuesday, including in Weardale and Bellingham.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A band of rain, sleet and snow will become slow moving across parts of southern Scotland and northern England during Thursday morning.

"Three to eight centimetres of snow is most likely to accumulate above 250 metres, but possibly as low as 100 metres in parts of south-west Scotland."

Thursday's yellow warning is scheduled to be in force between 2am and 11am.

Thursday's forecast

Another cold day and mainly overcast with further rain at times and some hill snow is probable.

Strong winds near coasts with possible developing gales later.

Maximum temperature 4 °C.
