More restaurants could be on their way to the Metrocentre in Gateshead

More restaurants could be coming to the Metrocentre as plans to re-purpose part of its space have been lodged with Gateshead Council.

The Metrocentre Partnership has asked the authority for permission to change the use of mall space.

If the plans are given the go-ahead, 791.70 square metres of mall space and service corridors in the centre’s upper mall will be changed to retail, food and drink, leisure and office use.

It is not know what the space will be used for yet or what hours it will be open.

These proposals come hot on the heels of the Metrocentre expanding its all-day dining options.

Popular American brand Slim Chickens opened its doors to hungry shoppers in mid-August.

The eatery, which is owned by Boparan Restaurant Group which also owns Giraffe, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Carluccio’s and Ed’s Easy Diner, serves chicken tenders, sandwiches and hot wings.

Meanwhile, Doppio Malto, an Italian based bar and restaurant brand, is also poised to open up in the shopping mecca.

Gateshead Council is expected to decide on the application in October.
