More positive coronavirus cases recorded at Manchester's courts

More positive coronavirus cases have been recorded at Manchester's courts.

There have been four confirmed cases in the past week at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square in Spinningfields.

The courts service said three cases related to staff and one was recorded by a 'court user'.

Manchester Crown Court remains open and a deep clean has been conducted.

A spokesperson for HM Courts and Tribunals Service spokesperson said: "The court remains open and has been deep cleaned following four positive cases. We continue to work closely with Public Health England."

It is the latest outbreak to affect Manchester's courts.

The Manchester Arena bombing public inquiry was adjourned last week after three confirmed cases and three suspected cases of the virus were reported at Manchester magistrates court, where the inquiry is being held.

Criminal cases being held in the building continued, but the inquiry decided to adjourn until this week. It has now recommenced.

It was later confirmed that there had been nine positive tests at Manchester magistrates court since Tuesday, October 13.

Earlier this year, Manchester Crown Court was shut for more than two weeks in August after eight positive cases were confirmed among staff.

Health officials advised that more tests needed be undertaken by those working in the building, even if they hadn't displayed symptoms of the virus.

An 'outbreak control team' was also established by Public Health England and Manchester council, to further investigate the outbreak.

The courts service said public health guidelines including the wearing of face coverings, social distancing and frequent cleaning are being employed to reduce the risk of infection.
