More positive cases of coronavirus confirmed across Nottinghamshire

Across Nottinghamshire, more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Public Health England figures show that as of 5.30pm on Monday, May 4, the total number of cases in Nottingham had risen by 10 to 537.

And there are now 1,148 lab-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Nottinghamshire - up from 1,134.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the city and county to 1,685.

It comes as the medical director confirmed 219 Covid-19 patients have now died in Nottingham's hospitals.

Nottingham University Hospitals confirmed the news on Monday, May 4, as it revealed three more people had died from the virus.

The most recent deaths involved people aged between 83 and 86 years old, who died between May 2 and May 3.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed in the daily press briefing that an NHS contact-tracing app would be trialled this week in the Isle of Wight.

The app will be used to track coronavirus infections as restrictions on movements are expected to ease.

Speaking from Downing Street on Monday evening, Mr Hancock said it would “hunt down and isolate the virus so it is unable to reproduce”.

“Crucially, test, track and trace allows us to take a more targeted approach to lockdown while still safely containing the disease,” he said.

“Creating this system is a huge national undertaking of unprecedented scale and complexity.”
