More positive cases confirmed as Nottingham Forest learn latest Championship testing results

Six individuals from four clubs have tested positive in the latest round of coronvirus testing in the Championship.

It comes as Nottingham Forest are preparing for their return to action on June 20, when they will resume the season with a trip to face Sheffield Wednesday.

The English Football League announced the latest set of results after tests were carried out on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Those who have tested positive are currently self-isolating for seven days and cannot attend their club’s training ground as a result.

In total 1,192 players and staff from all 24 Championship clubs were tested, while in League One there were two confirmed cases from 137 tests, and in League Two, there were no positive cases from 135 tests.

“Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1,192 players and club staff from the 24 Championship clubs were tested over the course of Sunday, 7 June, Monday, 8 June and Tuesday, 9 June, with six individuals testing positive from four clubs,” a statement read.

“Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.”

Stoke City confirmed on Tuesday evening that boss Michael O'Neill had tested positive for Covid-19, amid reports a friendly against Manchester United had to be called off.

The Championship is due to resume on June 20, with 108 matches set to be played in the space of a month, behind closed doors.

The EFL statement added: "As the fixture programme resumes, the EFL will make a central announcement of COVID-19 test results every Wednesday at midday to continue to support competition integrity and transparency.

No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the league."
