Police are planning a crackdown on motorists who break road rules in the Hunter region, as part of a statewide operation.
Operation Chrome will take place in the NSW Police Southern, Western and Northern regions on Friday and Saturday.
The operation is aimed at reducing road trauma in communities - particularly in rural and regional parts of the state.
Extra police will be patrolling rural roads and highways in marked and unmarked cars, looking for drivers and riders displaying risky behaviour.
Hunter region police commands will be taking part in the operation, focusing on offences including speeding, drink-driving, drug-driving, people not wearing seatbelts, mobile phone use and fatigue.
"Excessive speed, alcohol, distraction through mobile phones and occupant restraints are evident contributing factors to fatal crashes within Northern region," Newcastle-Hunter Highway Patrol Acting Inspector Matthew Rees said.
