More pictures released of new £400,000 Skegness lighting scheme

Themed projection shows will be part of the new £400,000 Skegness lighting scheme, brought to the seafront by the muscle behind Blackpool's regeneration project.

More images have now been released of the curved lampposts and "state of the art LED colour changing lighting and image projection" currently being installed on Tower Esplanade.

The scheme is part of the Skegness Foreshore Masterplan and aims to "restore a sense of pride" in the area, reports Lincolnshire Live.

East Lindsey District Council shared new pictures of the masterplan progress on its Facebook page, writing: "As promised here are a few more pictures of Skegness and the new lighting scheme along Tower Esplanade - which our contractors were testing and configuring last night [February 27]."

The new lighting has been installed by J. McCann & Co, who delivered The Brilliance Project in Blackpool, and supplied by DW Windsor.

'The Brilliance Project' delivered a similar, curved lighting system into the centre of Blackpool.

Some had criticised the council's decision to chop down some trees along the seafront as part of the plan earlier this year.

The council defended this decision pointing to the poor condition of the trees which they say were in need of replacement.

The council have also installed new granite benches, bins and resurfacing of the pavements along the Esplanade.

Lisa Collins, Lincolnshire Coastal Destination BID Manager, said: "The new lighting scheme is a very welcome addition and will become a feature in its own right with its ability to use projection as well as lighting.

“The new cream and green colour scheme has vastly improved the appearance of the foreshore and we have had many positive comments from visitors over the summer months, the next phase of the improvements will further add to improving the area.

"We look forward to continuing to work in partnership to continually strive to improve and enhance the foreshore.”
