More people in work across Monklands than during same time last year

There are more people in work across Monklands than at this time last year.

The amount of residents in Airdrie & Shotts making alternative claimant (AC) unemployment requests was 2922 last month - a 1238 reduction on October 2020's statistics.

In neighbouring Coatbridge, Chryston & Bellshill, 2886 AC claims were made during October, which was a 1238 fall on the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Universal Credit claims in North Lanarkshire were down slightly, with October 2021's 33,227 claims down 111 on the month before.

Jobseekers are encouraging Lanarkshire residents to take on a job just before Christmas - even if it is just temporary.

A spokesman for the organisation told Lanarkshire Live : "This is a great way for jobseekers to build key skills and confidence. It’s also a good way of giving themselves the best chance of securing a permanent role if one becomes available.

"I’d encourage jobseekers to visit Find a Job and locate their next local opportunity.

"We have vacancies across North Lanarkshire in all sectors and employers in job centres most days. Please get in touch with your local job centre to find out what employers are booked in."

Minister for Welfare Delivery, David Rutley, added: “Universal Credit continues to offer a safety net for those who need it and nearly two million working claimants will be better off by £1000 a year on average, thanks to upcoming changes to make our taper rate and work allowances more generous.

"Those out of work will continue to be supported on their employment journey by our Plan for Jobs, whilst our £500m Household Support Fund is also supporting the most vulnerable with essential costs this winter.”
