More patients die in Nottingham's hospitals after positive coronavirus test

More patients who had tested positive for coronavirus have died in Nottingham's hospitals.

Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, which runs City Hospital and the Queen's Medical Centre, confirmed the news on Sunday, May 10 - revealing that a further four people have died at its sites.

The patients, aged between 77 and 88 years old, died on May 8 and May 9, taking the trust's death toll to 238.

Dr Keith Girling, medical director at Nottingham University Hospitals, said: “Sadly we can confirm that a further four patients have died having tested positive for Covid-19.

"Regrettably, that means that 238 Covid-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.

“The patients were aged between 73 and 88 and all died on May 8 and May 9.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

Most recent NHS England data for Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, accurate to May 8, shows 106 people have died at the trust's three hospitals.

A further 13 patients have died after positive virus tests at Nottinghamshire Healthcare's secure units across the county.

It comes as new data from Public Health England shows how many confirmed cases of coronavirus there are in each borough and district of Nottinghamshire.

The data, accurate to 5pm on May 8, shows the number of lab-confirmed cases has increased again across the city and county as of May 7, rising by a total of 12 cases.

In Nottingham, data shows the number of cases increased slightly from 563 to 567, while cases increased from 1,203 to 1,211 in Nottinghamshire.

Official data from the Office for National Statistics has also revealed just how many people have died with Covid-19 in settings outside hospital.

Coronavirus cases data has now been further broken up to cover lower-tier local authorities, but it is worth noting the data only represents lab-confirmed cases, and there are likely to have been many more unconfirmed cases in each area.

The data shows that the eight further cases across Nottinghamshire came in Rushcliffe (4), Ashfield (2), Gedling (1) and Newark & Sherwood (1).

Confirmed cases of Covid-19 by borough and district:

Gedling - 200 (1)

Broxtowe - 222

Rushcliffe - 160 (4)

Newark and Sherwood - 130 (1)

Mansfield - 111

Bassetlaw - 178

Ashfield - 210 (2)
