More patients die in Nottingham hospitals after positive coronavirus tests

The medical director of Nottingham's two hospitals has confirmed more deaths following positive coronavirus tests.

A total of seven more people have died from the virus across Nottingham University Hospitals' two sites, taking the trust's total to 169.

The trust, which runs City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre, has confirmed the patients were aged between 72 and 98, and died between March 21 and April 21.

Dr Keith Girling, medical director at Nottingham University Hospitals, said: “Sadly we can confirm that a further seven patients have died having tested positive for Covid-19.

"Regrettably that means that 169 Covid-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.

“The patients were aged between 72 and 98, and died between March 21 and April 21.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

It comes as a further 587 patients with coronavirus died in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in English hospitals to 17,373.

The patients were aged between 40 and 102 years old, 34 of whom had no known underlying health conditions, the NHS has confirmed.

Figures for the number of UK-wide deaths will be released by the Department of Health later today, with Thursday, April 23's total standing at 18,738 deaths.
