With a mixture of drama, sci-fi, love, tension, friendship, envy, jealousy, revenge and sadness, this story takes you on a rollercoaster of all these emotions put together. Kathryn Evans has done amazingly well to put such a hard book together. Trust me, it would be outrageously hard to write. Sci-fi novels normally do take their time to write as you do have to make sure everything makes complete sense!
A very weird, but unique and honest book exploring the life story of Teva, a normal sixteen year old? Well, she may sound normal, but mysterious Teva hides a impossible secret: 12 other Tevas living with her, as once a year she leaves a smaller version of herself behind to be trapped and only the newer version to be let free into the real world. Confusing right? It worse for Teva. She just wants a normal life and to stop this, even if that means hurting her former or future self.
Teva is my favourite character as she is the only one who tries to put a stop to this. Digging into this book I felt myself experiencing Teva’s bravery in trying to find a solution, by any means possible. And not only this but also her teenage dramas, moodswings and fall outs!
All the different versions of Teva are easily identifiable from each other which really is an impressive writing skill. You recognize each distinctive age of growing up when they appear in the story, which was at times quite unique.
But who is Teva, sacrificing and taking the risk of finding a solution, actually doing this for? It’s her love for Ollie who is actually 15’s boyfriend and both of them will do anything to have him.
This book is truly a unique and miraculous book which has made me realise I am a lucky girl who has a normal life – which many people in this world crave for! This book I recommend to boy and girls aged 12 and above as it is quite confusing and difficult to read at times and younger audiences would not understand it.
