Oct. 05--The anchor chairs keep shifting at MSNBC.
NBC News' cable channel confirmed a report on the website TV Newser that weekend host Steve Kornacki will leave his program "Up With Steve Kornacki" for a larger role on weekdays as a fill-in anchor and political reporter.
Alex Wagner, who lost her daily program in July as the channel moved away from political-leaning talk, will take over Kornacki's program on a date to be announced, according to a spokeswoman for the channel.
Starting today, Kornacki will sit in for political director Chuck Todd on "MTP Daily," the new daily MSNBC program hosted by the network's political director and "Meet the Press" moderator. Kornacki will handle the program on Mondays, which is Todd's usual day off.
Kornacki said in a tweet that he will continue to fill in for Chris Matthews on the nightly MSNBC political show "Hardball."
A former White House correspondent, Wagner joined MSNBC as a host in November 2011. She became a contributor after her show, "Now With Alex Wagner, was canceled in July.
Kornacki had been on weekends at MSNBC since July 2013, after a year as one of the four co-hosts of the MSNBC panel program "The Cycle."
MSNBC has kept political commentary in the evening, but the channel is devoting its daytime hours to breaking news, adding Kate Snow as an anchor in the afternoons. Former "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams has also joined the channel to handle major stories.
