More MPs may go before election: Perrottet

More NSW MPs could quit before next year's state election in March, Premier Dominic Perrottet says.

A handful of government Liberal MPs have already announced they will be leaving, including Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello and Infrastructure Minister Rob Stokes.

Mr Perrottet is saddened to see the two go but as the Liberals opened up preselection in more electorates, he said it was likely more MPs would announce their retirement.

"We've got another tranche of preselections to come and I think that's a good thing," Mr Perrottet said on Sunday.

"I'm a big believer in modern politics where people come in, make a difference then transition to another career.

"That's something I think we should encourage."

Mr Perrottet likened the current round of departures to watching a beloved team losing its old guard to retirement but replacing them with young, promising talent.

"There's a few more seats to open. I think we (the Liberal Party) will do that shortly. That's really a matter for those members," he said.

Upper house MP and Pittwater resident Natasha Maclaren-Jones has already nominated to run for the Liberals in Mr Stokes' seat at the March state election.

State parliament's lower house speaker Jonathan O'Dea, Corrections Minister Geoff Lee, Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly and Vaucluse MP Gabrielle Upton have also announced their retirements.

Liberal preselections are also required in Kiama and Drummoyne after the current sitting members were booted from the party due to separate scandals.
