A string of drive-through coronavirus testing centres will return to Sefton in October, as the virus continues to spread throughout the borough.
Sefton’s infection rate is now 179.4 per 100,000 residents, with 496 coronavirus cases recorded between September 20 and September 26, the most recent figures available.
The spread of the virus in the borough is staggering.
On August 2, there were just 10 cases in the borough at a rate of 3.6 per 100,000.
Sefton, along with the entire region, is awaiting an announcement on likely further coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
Local leaders are expecting measures to be tightened shortly, including the ban on households mixing in private homes and gardens being extended to any indoor setting – including pubs, bars and restaurants.
As well as the drive-through test centres at Southport and Bootle town halls, there will be mobile coronavirus testing units across Sefton throughout October.
